EI Towers contributes to Italian football | Daily News

Nevion, a Sony Group company, has supplied a contribution system to Italian telecommunications service provider EI Towers to support coverage of Italy’s Serie A football league. It connects 17 stadiums to a new international broadcast center in Lissone, near Milan, and was delivered in just four months.

The contribution system was needed to ensure the secure and reliable transport of 16 3G-SDI video streams and one UHD video stream (plus audio and data) from each stadium to IBC – where virtualizations and graphics are inserted and then distributed to rights holders in Italy and abroad. Feeds are also provided to the Video Assisted Adjudication (VAR) unit.

The contribution system offered by Nevion and its Italian partner CVE concerns both products and services.

Nevion Virtuosos software-defined media nodes handle SDI transport of video, audio, and data over the transport stream across the WAN with 1+1 redundancy, encoding the video signal with JPEG 2000 for transport and providing the SMPTE ST2022-6 adaptation to the IBC.

The VideoIPath media orchestration platform controls connections to all stadiums with bandwidth management. A touch screen interface has been developed to make it easy to connect all signals in a stadium with a single button.

Nevion and CVE also undertook project delivery, design, remote configuration, on-site support and premium 24/7 support.

“We have taken on a huge challenge building new production infrastructure in such a short time – not just the contribution, but also a brand new facility in Lissone,” said Piercarlo Invernizzi, CTO at EI Towers. “We needed reliable partners who would deliver, and Nevion and CVE did just that for the contribution portion of this project. The solution has now worked successfully for the entire season.
