Ekong on the verge of returning to Serie A

Ekong set to return to Serie A

Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong has emerged as a transfer target for Italian Serie A side Bologna.

Ekong is out of favor at Watford and Bologna are confident they can sign the defender before the end of the current transfer window.

Rossoblù coach Sinisa Mihajlovic wants to strengthen his defence, after their shaky start to the new Serie A campaign.

Bologna are currently 16th in the standings after three games; with zero wins and conceding five goals in the process.

According to Italian market expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Mihajlovic believes Ekong can improve his backline and he is ready to bring him back to Italy.

Ekong spent two seasons with Udinese in Italy before moving to Watford in 2020, where he signed a five-year deal.

The 28-year-old is currently Watford’s third-choice centre-half and he’s eager to leave for better playing time elsewhere.
