Emilia-Romagna Little League of Bologna, Italy will take part in the 75th anniversary of the Little League World Series next month after defeating Little League South Czech Republic, 4-1, in the Championship of Europe and Africa region. After narrowly falling to the Czech Republic side 1-0 earlier in the tournament, Emilia Romagna LL was able to bounce back in the league game and clinch Italy’s sixth trip to South Williamsport with a record 4-1 aggregate in the event.
In their first match of the tournament, Emilia Romagna LL had the opportunity to play against the Ukraine team, who got permission from the International Little League Tournament Committee to participate in the event despite the no regular season due to the current situation. war. After the match, the two teams came together for a photo and created memories throughout the tournament.
With the win, Emilia Romagna LL has now won five of Italy’s six appearances in the series and has represented the region in all but one event since 2016. Emilia Romagna LL most recently played in the 2019 series with a team made up of four players under 12, including two 10-year-olds, the youngest players in the entire tournament.
The league from Bologna, Italy, swept the Europe and Africa region in the Little League division this year, as the baseball team joins the Emilia-Romagna softball team which recently clinched its ticket to the Little League Softball World Series in Greenville, North Carolina.
Emilia-Romagna Little League will face Asia-Pacific winners Fu-Lin Little League (Taipei City, Chinese Taipei) in Game 5 of the series on Thursday, August 18 at 1 p.m. at Volunteer Stadium.
The LLWS 75th anniversary celebration will continue through August ahead of this year’s World Series.
