Marion S “Muddy” Lombardo, 91, of Falconer died Saturday (September 17, 2022) at Heritage Green Healthcare Center.
A lifelong resident of the region, he was born on December 15, 1930 in Niagara Falls, the son of the late Philip and Anna Bruno Lombardo.
Muddy graduated from Falconer High School and served in the US Navy Reserves for 8 years. In the early years Muddy was employed by the old Art Metal Corporation, and for over 40 years he was employed by Allstate Insurance.
He was a member of Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church, OLL Holy Name Society, Italian American Brotherhood, Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, War Vets Recreation, AMVETS Local 1996, and the former Jamestown Loyal Order of Moose Lodge.
In his glory days, Muddy played semi-pro football for the Jamestown American Legion, Fredonia Orioles and Jamestown Dukes. He then pursued his passion for football through his sons, grandsons and the Buffalo Bills. Muddy could be seen at the top of the stands at any local football game with binoculars in one hand, a hot dog in the other.
He is survived by his five children: Ann Marie (George) Erickson of Jamestown, Philip Lombardo of Falconer, Stephen (Kandis) Lombardo of Jamestown, Michelle (Mark) Saxton of Jamestown, Dr. Jeffrey (Joanne) Lombardo of Buffalo; ten grandchildren: Ashley (Doug) Switzer, Aaron (Madeline) Erickson, Adam Erickson, Britany (Nicholas) Emley, Jordan (Taylor) Saxton, Dr Nicholas Lombardo, Matthew Lombardo, Joseph Lombardo, Lucas Lombardo, Emily Lombardo; eight great-grandchildren: Mason and Jaxson Switzer, Ethan and Noah Erickson, Callie, Taylinn, Wade and Rose Emley, and Lincoln Saxton; his sister Nancy (David) Kingsley of Falconer; his sister-in-law Susan Erickson of Lakewood and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Sharyn A. Erickson Lombardo whom he married September 3, 1955 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, died July 30, 2019, one brother, Leonard (Marilyn ) Lombardo, one brother, one brother-in-law, Robert (Deloris) Erickson, one brother-in-law Donald Erickson, and one granddaughter Grace Lombardo
A Christian burial mass to be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday September 22 at Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church, Falconer. Prof. Don Watkins, pastor of Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church, will be the celebrant. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Friends will be received by family from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21 at Falconer Funeral Home. A Christian Wake service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
