Virginia Rose (Giannamore) Filippelli Obituary

88, of Johnston, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 31, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Louis P. Filippelli for 53 years. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Theresa (Carrara) Giannamore.

Virginia was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School, and while raising her five children, she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Rhode Island College. She was a dedicated elementary teacher for the Johnston School Department for 25 years before retiring. She helped organize and played piano for many musical performances at Sarah Dyer Barnes Elementary School. In her early years, she trained as a concert pianist. Virginia played an important role in instilling the importance of education in her children and grandchildren. She was also a board member of the Italian American Historical Society.

Virginia is survived by her loving children, Louis P. Filippelli and his wife Deana of Warwick, Linda P. Marandola and her husband Thomas of Cranston, Lisa P. Filippelli-Moan and her husband Greg of Johnston, Dr. Leslie P. DiManna of Smithfield, and Dr. Lawrence P. Filippelli and his wife Stephanie of Greenville; cherished grandchildren, Marissa and Julianna Marandola, Jenna Filippelli, Gian and Lucas DiManna, Emilena and Aria Filippelli and Malakai Moan; dear sisters, Elaine Nannarone of Coventry and Claire M. Giannamore of West Palm Beach, FL. She also leaves to mourn her son-in-law Gian DiManna, her granddogs Jack and Gia, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service at NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Christian burial mass at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, Providence. Interment will follow at St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston.
